Over the past 15 years, Daniel Watkins has been named many things, including a pioneer of the wakeboarding industry, a National Champion, and a World Champion. And now, we can call him a Hall of Famer! Watkins was honored last week for his love, passion, and many contributions to the industry as he was the first wakeboarder to ever be inducted into the Australian Waterski and Wake Federation (AWWF) Hall of Fame.
"I am proud, honoured, and grateful to be selected for the AWWF Hall of Fame," commented Watkins. "To me, it's a sign of how far wakeboarding has come. I was one of the first competitive wakeboarders in Australia, and now I am being honoured for dedicating my life to the progression of the sport. It's amazing."
Since beginning his pro career in 1999, Daniel Watkins has dominated both the Southern and Northern Hemispheres. He has achieved many career highlights, including 2x World Series Champ, World Cup Champ, 3x APTW Champ, APTW Co-founder, WWA Legend, and is acknowledged as being one of the first Australian riders to bring the hype and energy of US wakeboarding back to Australia.
In selecting Watkins for the honor, the AWWF praised his efforts and passion to grow the sport, which he has now turned into a life-long career. "Tige is continuing to be a major part of my next phase in life. I have a Tige Dealership on the Gold Coast and the distribution rights to all of Australia. Having a major influence on the direction of such an amazing brand for a whole country is amazing. I am having more fun now than ever before!"
From everyone here at Tige, Congratulations Watkins!
