I flew from Bali to the biggest city in Indonesia, Jakarta. Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and is the home to over 10 million people. Jakarta is always bustling, from the sound of the wheel of government turning to the sight of the economy churning. Skyscrapers, single story residential houses, modern apartment complexes, survivalists shanties - all coexist in this city. 2.30 hrs flight and only 1 hour time difference to Bali…
Like all of the big cites in the world, there is a lot of traffic and the pollution is insane. You can tell because your eyes, throat, and your body all start to feel sick… But the wake surfing fever hit hard on the shores of Jakarta.
After hours inside the taxi, I arrived in Ancol, which is like Disney for Indonesia… also know as Ancol Dreamland. It is an integral part of Ancol Bay City, a resort destination located along Jakarta's waterfront.
Ancol Dreamland opened in 1966 and is currently the largest integrated tourism area in South East Asia, boasting an international championship golf course, a theme park, hotels and other recreational facilities. There are 27 rides at Fantasy World, 8 pools at Atlantis Water Adventure and 8 shows at Ocean Dream Samudra.
Epic Cablepark was established in early 2012 and is the only cable park in Jakarta. Epic Wakepark Store is a store dedicated to supplying the best brands of wakeboarding and water sports equipment to Indonesia.
Currently Epic is the official distributor in Indonesia for America's hottest brand such as Ronix, Radar, as well as Jet Pilot. Other brands which will also be available through Epic are Liquid Force, O’Brien, Slingshot, Hyperlites.
The Epic Wakepark opened only 1 year ago and is always full and busy year round. The park is not too big but they have good obstacles and also a 2.0 system with a quaterpipe, making it super fun and challenging for the riders in this area. The park is located in a cute little bay with a channel going out to the ocean. I had a lot of fun riding the cable and hanging out with the staff and riders there… Everybody is pretty amazed by wakesurfing because its really new for them. The idea of an endless wave and ride as much as you want it its like a dream for every rider. Everyone is very excited and curious about what wakesurfing its all about.
Showing others what wakesurfing is and bringing them to love the sport is one of my favorite things. The world is very big but is also very small at the same time. And in the wakesurfing industry, everyone knows almost everyone… and I continue to try to make my name in the international scene one by one…
Next day everybody was more than ready to surf so we went to one of the beautiful islands 1 hour by boat from the city. The channel that connects the ocean was super flat, super nice, and super blue. We had about 10 people on a 35-foot cruiser to make it to the island and someone else was bringing the wake boat. Everything was nice except that the wakeboard boat wasn't there... The boat broke down on the way to the island so we decided to ride behind the big cruiser. The boat was finally fixed so the wakesurf show, lessons, and joy took chance in the Jakarta waters not too far from the city.
Leaving Jakarta, I took a 20 hr plane to Ukraine. Kiev is the capital and the largest city in Ukraine, located in the north central part of the country on the Dnieper River. The population as of the 2001 census was 2,611,300, though higher numbers have been cited in the press.
Kiev is an important industrial, scientific, educational, and cultural centre of Eastern Europe. It is home to many high-tech industries, higher education institutions and world-famous historical landmarks. The city has an extensive infrastructure and highly developed system of public transport, including the Kiev Metro.
I first came to Kiev two years ago and since the wakesurf fever has exploded. Every year he has invitations to came back so it was that time to head back. Arriving to Kiev in the morning, the owner of the Break Water Ski School came pick me up at the airport and brought me to their place.
The school is located almost in the city on some of the island surrounding by a lots of small channel. You just take the bridge and you are in the city. The place is very nice, super natural, lots of trees and you feel like you are so far from the city and in the middle of nowhere. They also have a restaurant and a big floating pontoon where you can eat and watch everybody riding, wakesurf, wakeboard, or water ski. They have 2 boats: one for wakesurf and one for ski.
They have great water conditions. The school is almost by themselves with no other boats passing by. They organize week long camps with 8 riders everyday ready to learn some new tricks. At the end of the week, everybody was super happy about their evolution thru the week and about all the stuff they have to practice now for the all summer.
Everybody was pretty cool and they took care good of the coach. :)
Thanks to all people from Break Water in Ukraine. While I was in Ukraine, I got to meet and ride with Oleg, the Tige dealer of Ukraine. I was stoked to see people riding with my board “Doum skim” from Liquid Force and see people loving it..
Watching the wakesurf fever spread is always a great way to start the season!
