The Lucas Family's Tigé Story
It All Started With A Smile
For Brandon Lucas, getting into boating wasn't his idea—it was his wife Kendra's infectious enthusiasm that started it all. "My wife, Kendra, was all smiles anytime she went to wake surf with her brother and friends after graduating college," Brandon recalls. "She enjoyed the challenge and the lake life and wanted to be a part of it." That passion would spark what has become an 11-year journey with Tigé Boats.
Why Tigé—And Why They Keep Coming Back
When the couple started shopping for boats in 2014, Tigé immediately caught their attention. "It started with the interior and touch screen user interface and our local dealer, Texas Tigé Marine," Brandon explains. But what sealed the deal went beyond the boat itself. "The Texas-made, local service and very personable experience from dealer and manufacturer is what has captured our business from 2014 forward."
That loyalty has been proven over the years. Since 2015, the Lucas family has owned four Tigé Boats: a 2015 Z3, a 2017 23RZX, a 2019 23RZX, and now their 2022 24RZX. Each upgrade has kept them firmly in the Tigé family.
Life At The Lake
With their boat on a lift at their lake house, the Lucas family can hit the water anytime they want—a setup that has shaped their children's entire upbringing. "Our boat is in a lift at our lake house, so we can be on the water at a moment's notice, which has been phenomenal for our kids' upbringing," says Brandon. Both kids, Nixon and Makena, fell in love with wakeboarding at a young age, and their typical lake day reflects that enthusiasm.
"Both kids have become passionate about wakeboarding before the age of 5, and they can't get enough of it," Brandon shares. "They usually get their sets in, then Kendra with some fun on the surfboard, and then our guests. I wrap up the day with a few basic maneuvers, and it always turns out to be a great day on the water."
What Makes Their Tigé 24RZX Perfect
After years of ownership and multiple upgrades, Brandon knows exactly what features matter most for their family's days on the water. "Everything in the helm," he says. "From the low bow rise, to captain's chair, to throttle and GO SURF/Clear interface. Makes the long days on the water possible."
The 24RZX has proven to be their ideal boat, checking all the boxes for a growing family's needs. "The surf locker is a must for our crew, storage for all the ladies' boat bags, floats for the kids, anchors, fenders, etc. The 24RZX that we are in now has checked all of those boxes, and we absolutely love it."
The Annual Reset
Ask Brandon about his favorite memory, and he doesn't hesitate. "In the last 11 years of ownership, my favorite memories are when we haul out of state, to Lake Ouachita, AR," he says. "We spend a week there, just our family, and spend 8-10 hours a day out on the water. Between surfing, wakeboarding, cliff jumping, and cove hopping, it never seems to be enough time there. We time it right before the kids go back to school, and it's a great reset."
Advice For Families Just Starting Out
Having gone from a young couple to a family of four over their 11 years of Tigé ownership, Brandon has some practical wisdom for families considering getting into boating. "Definitely plan for the future regarding capacity and storage needs," he advises. "Kids, dependent on age, want to invite friends, and maybe complete families."
A Decision They'd Make Again
Looking back on over a decade of ownership, Brandon reflects on how boating has transformed their family's summers. "This experience for us is something we will always remember as epic. From being two young adults taking a chance on the biggest purchase next to a house, to 11 years later, having countless memories with our kids, both sets of our parents, and our friends. I wouldn't trade it for anything." He adds with a smile, "Our summers are dedicated to lake life, and we take the matter very seriously."
While Lake Ouachita remains their favorite destination, the Lucas family can regularly be found closer to home on the Trinity River. As Brandon puts it: "God Bless the Dirty T."
